My Most Anticipated Books For The Second Half Of 2021

I can’t believe we’re halfway through 2021 already! There were so many amazing releases in the first half of this year, and I thought I’d make a follow up to my first anticipated releases post! The second half of this year looks just as fantastic, with so many exciting books I just know will be amazing!

Mulan meets The Song of Achilles! A reimaging of the rise of the Ming Dynasty! With an incredibly queer cast! I’m a huge fan of big, slow-paced fantasy, especially when they tie in with real historical events. I can tell this books is going to be a new favourite, and probably also completely destroy me.

What We Devour by Linsey Miller

Light From Uncommon Stars by Ryka Aoki

The All-Consuming World by Cassandra Khaw

Cassandra Khaw’s debut novel is a page-turning exploration of humans and machines that is perfect for readers of Ann Leckie, Ursula Le Guin, and Kameron Hurley. 

This book managed to be on both of my lists because of a chance is release date! A queer criminal group, and sentient spaceships is all I’ve ever wanted in my life.

Activation Degradation by Marina J. Lostetter

Marina J. Lostetter has already written one of my favourite releases of 2021 with The Helm of Midnight, so I’m so excited to read this book too! Described as The Murderbot Diaries meets first contact; I need more loveable AI in my life, so sign me up!

The Death of Jane Lawrence by Caitlin Starling

Give me gothic horror and give it to me now. This book sounds absolutely amazing. I’ve been so excited with the new directions authors have been taking gothic horror recently, how interestingly they’ve added and twisted the genre into something new. Caitlin Starling is an amazing writer so I can’t wait to delve into this one!

The Bone Shard Emperor by Andrea Stewart

I love a good historical fantasy and this one sounds like a great one. Red, White & Royal Blue meets Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell! It’s been described as a gay jock/librarian pairing! The author has said this book features ‘Houses That Love You’, ‘bound by sexy magical restraints *lol)’, ‘gratuitous library porn’, and a ‘homicidal hedge maze’. What more you could you need in a book.

Skin of the Sea by Natasha Bowen

This cover is absolutely beautiful, and excuse me, I always need more mermaids in my life. This book is inspired by West African mythology, and is described as ‘Children of Blood and Bone meets The Little Mermaid’. Doesn’t that sound amazing?

Jade Legacy by Fonda Lee

The final book in The Green Bone Saga is probably my most anticipated book of the year. I love this series so much and I can’t wait to be absolutely destroyed.
