WWW Wednesday is a meme hosted by Sam of Taking on a World of Words. It’s a fun midweek reading update that asks you to answer three questions:

– What are you currently reading?
– What did you recently finish reading?
– What do you think you’ll read next?

What are you currently reading?

Rainbow Milk by Paul Mendez It has a shirtless black man's torso in purple with other colours radiating from it.

I’m reading Rainbow Milk at the moment! This one is about the life of a black, gay man who has been expelled from the Jehovah’s Witness community he grew up in because of his identity. He moves to London and becomes a sex worker to stay afloat. It’s fiction but it’s semi-autobiographical and it feels very real. I can’t say much more because that’s where I’m at, but it’s supposed to be about creating ‘new notions of love, fatherhood and spirituality’ and I’m really enjoying the writing style so far.

What did you recently finish reading?

Digging Up Love by Chandra Blumberg. The cover has a cake with dinosaur skeleton layers and two figures on top.

I just finished Digging Up Love. I was a bit disappointed by this read, I mean a romance with cakes and dinosaurs sounds exactly up my street. Unfortunately, there was a lot more unnecessary angst based on miscommunication which is the opposite of what I enjoy. No one is happy and no one is talking to anyone about it. I found it difficult to root for the main couple – I just wished it had less drama and more dinosaurs.

Stars and Bones by Gareth L. Powell. The cover has a red space scene with a ship flying away from a burning sun.

Next, I’m picking up my advanced copy of Stars and Bones! I honestly don’t know too much about this book other than it’s supposed to be a fun sci-fi with excellent worldbuilding and found family vibes. That’s my jam so I’m excited.

  1. This is the second review I’ve seen for Digging Up Love that mentions the miscommunication and angst and it’s starting to sound like it’ll probably not be for me. Which is disappointing cos as you said, what’s not to like about cakes and dinosaurs?! I hope you enjoy your current and future reads more 🙂
