February’s New Book Releases I’m Excited For

February has so many new releases! This post is going to be a long one, but I’m so excited for everything to come. Whenever I come to make these posts I’m always a little overwhelmed by how many books there are to read, but that’s also what makes them so fun! I hope you find something to add to your TBR here!

February 2nd

The Project by Courtney Summers

Why I’m excited to read this: I’ve been really enjoying thrillers recently, and this one seems so intriguing. I’ve heard it gets incredibly dark at parts, featuring trauma and cults, but also sisterhood.

Love Is A Revolution by Renee Watson

Young Adult Contemporary Romance

Why I’m excited to read this: I know I’m not the biggest YA contemporary reader but this one looks really cute! I love the idea of a romance that focuses on self love, especially alongside a black plus-sized protagonist.

What Big Teeth by Rose Szabo

Young Adult Horror Fantasy

Why I’m excited to read this: I love books with gothic vibes and this book promises a creepy atmosphere mixed with utter strangeness! A weird dysfunctional family! Queer rep! I’m so ready for this book.

Why I’m excited to read this: Another YA Contemporary? Who am I turning into? This book featuring a fat brown girl learning to love herself and sounds so important. The cover is beautiful, and I can’t wait to read it.

Why I’m excited to read this: This book features an aroace main character alongside an automation! Do I need to say anything more?

Why I’m excited to read this: This book looks very different and I’m intrigued. Featuring aliens whose goal it is to help humans toward space-flight in a historical setting. I think this would be an interesting read for people who would love learning about WWII and the history of space-flight.

Winter’s Orbit by Everina Maxwell

New Adult Sci-Fi

While the Iskat Empire has long dominated the system through treaties and political alliances, several planets, including Thea, have begun to chafe under Iskat’s rule. Why I’m excited to read this: This book sounds excellent! A occult library and hidden magic! A Zimbabwean-Scottish main character! Ghosts!

A Pho Love Story by Loan Le

Why I’m excited to read this: I love the idea of family rivals whose children fall in love with each other! Make it linked to pho restaurants with Vietnamese-American representation and this looks like so much fun.

The Gilded Ones by Namina Forna

Why I’m excited to read this: This book looks amazing! A west-African inspired feminist fantasy with a unique premise and themes surrounding racism, misogyny, and trauma. Also, that cover is beautiful!

Never Have I Ever by Isabel Yap

Why I’m excited to read this: This is a collection by a Filipino author! I’ve heard it’s absolutely amazing and that cover is stunning. I’m not always a fan of short story collections but this sounds so up my alley I can’t miss it.

Fireheart Tiger by Aliette de Bodard

Why I’m excited to read this: The Goblin Emperor meets Howl’s Moving Moving Castle in a pre-colonial Vietnamese-esque world sounds like the book of my dreams. Mix in a sapphic romance and I need this book desperately.

Why I’m excited to read this: I love books about mythology, but Greek myths are a bit overdone, that’s why I’m really looking forward to this reimagining of Norse mythology!

Why I’m excited to read this: A dark and gritty YA fantasy with enemies-to-lovers and a forbidden romance! I always love books that feature rebellion and this one seems as if it has a unique magic system too!

The Echo Wife by Sarah Gailey

Adult Science Fiction Thriller

Martine is a genetically cloned replica made from Evelyn Caldwell’s award-winning research. She’s patient and gentle and obedient. She’s everything Evelyn swore she’d never be. And she’s having an affair with Evelyn’s husband.

Now, the cheating bastard is dead, and the Caldwell wives have a mess to clean up. Good thing Evelyn Caldwell is used to getting her hands dirty.

Why I’m excited to read this: The premise of this book sounds brilliant! A husband cheating on his wife with a clone of her? I love Sarah Gailey’s writing so I’m sure this is going to be a mind blowing, amazing read.

Leather and Lace by Magen Cubed

Why I’m excited to read this: The only books I read when I was younger were paranormal romances, so how could I resist this queer vampire love story?

The Centaur’s Wife by Amanda Leduc

Why I’m excited to read this: The Centaur’s Wife sounds like it’s going to be a beautiful book with a fairy-tale feel. I’m pretty sure this book features a disabled main character, and it’s written by a disabled author!

We Are the Fire by Sam Taylor

Young Adult Fantasy

In the cold, treacherous land of Vesimaa, children are stolen from their families by a cruel emperor, forced to undergo a horrific transformative procedure, and serve in the army as magical fire-wielding soldiers. Why I’m excited to read this: This book has been described as two fire-wielding teen soldiers in love pitted against each other as they fight against the empire who kidnapped them from home, and that sounds so fun!

February 18th

The Galaxy, and the Ground Within by Becky Chambers

Adult Sci-Fi

With no water, no air, and no native life, the planet Gora is unremarkable. The only thing it has going for it is a chance proximity to more popular worlds, making it a decent stopover for ships traveling between the wormholes that keep the Galactic Commons connected. If deep space is a highway, Gora is just your average truck stop.

At the Five-Hop One-Stop, long-haul spacers can stretch their legs (if they have legs, that is), and get fuel, transit permits, and assorted supplies. The Five-Hop is run by an enterprising alien and her sometimes helpful child, who work hard to provide a little piece of home to everyone passing through.

When a freak technological failure halts all traffic to and from Gora, three strangers—all different species with different aims—are thrown together at the Five-Hop. Grounded, with nothing to do but wait, the trio—an exiled artist with an appointment to keep, a cargo runner at a personal crossroads, and a mysterious individual doing her best to help those on the fringes—are compelled to confront where they’ve been, where they might go, and what they are, or could be, to each other.

Why I’m excited to read this: This book is the last installment of the Wayfarer series in which every book is absolutely amazing. I’ve actually already read this one and it’s brilliant. I’d recommend this series to people who love character-based books, you really don’t need to be a sci-fi reader to enjoy it!

Why I’m excited to read this: Give me queer faerie books and give me them now! I’m so excited for this book, it’s like everything younger me would have adored. Sword-wielding lesbians! Sapphic and Achillean solidarity! I need it!

Sun-Daughters, Sea-Daughters by Aimee Ogden

Adult Science-Fiction

Gene-edited human clans have scattered throughout the galaxy, adapting themselves to environments as severe as the desert and the sea. Why I’m excited to read this: This book was described as a ‘lyrical space opera that reimagines The Little Mermaid’ and that sounds amazing. It’s fitting a lot into a novella and I’m excited to see how it all works out.

Honey Girl by Morgan Rogers

Adult Contemporary Romance

With her newly completed PhD in astronomy in hand, twenty-eight-year-old Grace Porter goes on a girls’ trip to Vegas to celebrate. She’s a straight A, work-through-the-summer certified high achiever. She is not the kind of person who goes to Vegas and gets drunkenly married to a woman whose name she doesn’t know…until she does exactly that.

This one moment of departure from her stern ex-military father’s plans for her life has Grace wondering why she doesn’t feel more fulfilled from completing her degree. Why I’m excited to read this: We deserve more sapphic romances, and the married in Vegas trope sounds like so much fun! The main character is a Black lesbian astronomer! What more could you possibly need?

Shelter for the Damned by Mike Thorn

Why I’m excited to read this: I’m always up for horror that include creepy buildings which seem to be alive. I’m also interested by the study of violence and toxic masculinity within the main character! Looks like it could a fantastic book!
